Do you love Travel like I do? Even if you don’t, this post will change your perception about travelling as you will know the reasons why you must travel. I love travelling and I think we all must include travel in our life goals. For me, travel is like breathing, eating, meditation, education, spiritual and everything that’s essential to be alive.

“Travelling is an activity where one learns and re-learns something each day and captures numerous surreal experiences in his memory.

What is Travel?

Travelling can be described in various ways as everyone has a different meaning and perception about it. I feel if you are interested to learn and want to enjoy your journey with slight observation, you are travelling. Similarly, the place can be familiar or new, as long as you are open to new experiences, you are travelling.

We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us.

Why do people Travel?

Travel plays an important role in our life for its amazing health benefits. It fills your brain with knowledge which can change your perspective about the world (in a positive sense). I also read somewhere that travel is a Reboot System for human lives and I completely agree with that. Why? Let me explain in this post that how travelling can improve your overall well-being in a holistic way.

5 Reasons Why to travel

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustav Flaubert

1. HEALTH – MIND, BODY AND SOUL

The most obvious and important benefit is Stress reduction which is the root cause of many diseases in today’s fast-paced life. Planning a trip or thinking about your next destination can fill your heart with joy. That excitement certainly helps in reducing anxiety and depression. Our daily routine of sitting on a chair at workplace is weakening our body everyday. Whereas, travel allows you to engage with activities like walking, swimming, soaking the sunshine, trekking, cycling or hiking. These activities boost your physical health.

Practicing yoga and meditation in an open environment is more beneficial than a closed air conditioned room. Moreover, connecting with your soul and exchanging energies in nature is obviously most effective.

“Put your heart, soul and mind in the act that brings smile to your face” – Nikhar Khan

2. PRACTICAL LEARNING

To me, travelling is a new way of learning and I believe that every place has something to teach. Learning about different cultures, languages, places, cuisines and belief systems by meeting different people is more educational than any class or institution. While travelling, one can gain tremendous amount of knowledge on politics, sociology, geography, mythology and history. Travel also sharpens your mind- when you have to navigate to new places, try new things, see unfamiliar cultures and read foreign languages, it challenges your brain to engage with that environment. Also, real life learning stays with you for a long time and you bring back home much more than your specific goals.

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page” – Saint Augustine

3. CONFIDENCE AND EMPOWERMENT

Mostly for a regular person adventure is missing from routine life. When you see some pictures on instagram or a video on youtube of someone having a time of his/her life, you get tempted to do that and you start imagining yourself. From skydiving to river-rafting, trekking or bungee jumping, skiing or mountain climbing all are challenging activities that test your physical endurance and psychological capacity. In turn, the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from that thrilling experience is what makes you confident about yourself. Sometimes while travelling, you might find yourself making quick decisions and dealing with difficult situations which make you aware of your potential and skills that you didn’t know existed. As a result, you don’t only overcome your fears but also become more self-aware and empowered.

“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.” – Jennifer Lee

4. UPLIFTING YOUR ENERGY

There can be phases in life when you go through the hard time such as job loss, bad break up, death of a family member or any failure which has caused you emotional break down and left you feeling empty and low. Most of the times negative energy starts influencing all the other parts of your life but changing your surroundings can stop that process. In fact travel has power to heal and uplift your energy to bring that happiness back. Fun distractions can overshadow your sadness and positive energy/vibes of that new environment can boost your mood. People don’t realize that they need to disconnect with their cluttered atmosphere and relax their mind once in a while to refresh, neutralize and reset themselves.

“All you need to know is that it’s possible.” -Wolf, an Appalachian Trail Hiker

5.REBUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

It’s no secret that travel brings people together and closer. Family vacations, honeymoon, long weekend with friends or short getaways with co-workers can deepen the relationship and strengthen the bonding between people. While you are away from home travelling, you are going to enjoy the quality time with your closed ones which you generally don’t get to spend. It’s very common these days that all of us have our immediate family, relatives or best friends living across the world, this distance probably builds a gap and weakens the relationship. Travel can be used as an opportunity to reconnect and rebound with each other, and if needed ease off the past grudges.
