“Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it’s the only time we’ve got” – Art Buchwald
Many people are getting anxious and stressed about going out, rather focusing on doing things which they never had time for, before the lockdown. Recently I spoke to my close friend and she started cribbing about this whole stay at home situation and how badly she wanted to do something regular. I am sure many of us would be feeling this way and it’s natural. In contrast, I see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to introspect yourself and make your life more simpler and happier.

Why you should transform your life now
The best way to transform your life is by finding 10 good habits to adopt and evaluate 10 bad habits to get rid of. Take it as a beginning of something great and continue it for few weeks or months. I am telling you after seeing the changes and improvement, you would never want to go back to your old life. Although, if you don’t follow it now you gonna regret it later just like those folks who did not invest in stocks when market plummeted in 2008-09 🙂 These habits have helped me figure out my hobbies, potential and weaknesses. Practising these habits have improved all areas of my life and will do the same to you.

Habits that can transform your life
1. Make a Timetable
Remember how we used to study as per a timetable when we were in school? It kept us focussed and motivated to finish our preparation for exams. It may sound silly, but all the successful people follow a timetable in their routine life, right from waking up to going back to bed. Timetable is such a helpful tool to organize your day and make it count. Break your day into parts, assign time for exercise/yoga/meditation, reading, office work or whatever is your priority. This helps in keeping away from distractions and motivating to achieve your tasks.
“Life, if well lived, is long enough” – Seneca
2. Rekindle Relationships
We all are very busy in our lives chasing our dreams. Normally we complain about having so limited time in a day that we can’t spend it with our families. Whenever possible, spend time with your loved ones as much as you can. If you live away from your family, video call them, connect with them. Re-start your relationships, refuel your bondings and recharge your connection with friends.
“No amount of money or success can take the place of time spent with your Loved ones” – Nikhar Khan
3. Work out at home
I know most of us think about starting to workout from tomorrow which obviously never comes. You can’t have any excuse for not exercising. Many of us always dream about that perfect body but don’t get enough time to work on our shapes. We have so much more time now than ever. It will not only get back your health but probably might transform your overall life with some most evident results.
“You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it” – Charles Buxton
4. Create An Excel sheet
Since technology has made our lives easier that we can do so much in so less time. With that said, we can’t deny that it has made our lives more complicated at the same time. Remembering all the usernames and passwords for different bank accounts, different investment schemes and insurance policies etc. is next to impossible. Here is a quick fix for that. Recently I started maintaining an excel sheet and transferred the data from random notes to a secured excel sheet on my PC. Now I just have to remember only one password for this excel sheet. Trust me it’s a life changing tip that help you audit your finances in one click. Do secure it with a password and thank me later!
Tip: This excel will help you or your partner to make use of the informations in case of emergency or something happens to other, plus you can add portfolio values to keep a track too.
5. Finish 5 books of your choice
“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope” — .Kofi Annan
This is the best time to read books and get some knowledge to transform your life for overall well being. If you are not an avid reader then you can try at least 5 books for now. It’s best to start with a motivational and inspirational autobiography of a well-known person that you look upto. Reading books really gives you a perspective about different things that eventually helps you make right decisions in life. I am reading a book about Germany’s holocaust and history. I have bought ebooks on amazon kindle app

6. Start or Re- Start a Hobby
I think there can be no better time than this to start something new. We all have a lot more potential than we think. Your opportunity of starting your own blog or youtube channel is right now and right in front of you. You might want to practice any of your old hobbies (write stories/ poem/ sing/ dance/ sketch/ paint/ play guitar). Stop thinking and start acting on it. Ignite the creative side of yours and make the best of this time.
7. Make a list of goals for 2020
“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” – Albert Einstein
Setting goals and achieving them is very important in every individual’s life. We should focus on our goals and ask ourselves what have we achieved so far (this year) and what can we work on to achieve by the end of the year. The goals should be holistic and should include your personal finances, career, personal health, new skills and new experiences. You can even include a goal to find a life partner or make new friends. Keep in mind to assign timelines against each goal with frequent auditing.
If you have a travel related goal, you should start saving up for it with the help of tips given in my post How can you save more money in 2020
8. Start writing a Gratitude Journal
It might sound cliché but the fact is it really transforms your life in a best possible way. Yes, I have been practicing gratitude from last 4-5 years and seen changes in my life. It is as simple as writing 10 things in your journal that you are grateful for. It is not a habit but the way of life. Writing it down creates more deeper impact on your thoughts about those specific things you mention. The more you think about how grateful you are for so many things which you never realized before, the more it fills your heart with happiness. We all are blessed to have so much more than we think deserve, we need to acknowledge.
“Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.” – Jack Ma
9. Learn a new skill
No more waiting for the free time to get your hands into a new skill. The aim should be that it should serve its purpose and transform your life for good. From your passion to profession there are plenty of things you may want to learn such as cooking, painting, video editing, online course. You might want to take an online course to move ahead in your career. Whatever it is , do not let this time run away from your hand. Watching Netflix and chilling is not going to help you build your future. Before your jobs are taken by Robots, learn new skills and upgrade yourself.
“We are not really good at knowing what we want, and we are very quick to say “this sucks”. That’s where the opportunity lies.” – GARY VAYNERCHUK
